The Basics

The Road to Hana connects the towns of Kahului and Hana, hugging the coast for a distance of 64 miles. It’s famous for its difficult driving terrain and spectacular scenery. Highlights along the route include the seven sacred pools of Oheo, the Twin Falls waterfall, the black sand beach at Wai’anapanapa State Park, Honomanu Bay, and the Hana Lava Tube.

Driving along the route can be challenging for more inexperienced drivers, so if you’re not confident or don’t feel like spending an entire day behind the wheel, consider joining a guided full-day tour. For a more glamorous option, you can also get a bird’s eye view on a helicopter tour.

Small-Group Road to Hana Luxury Limo-Van Tour with Helicopter Flight Reverse
Awesome trip! Sam, our pilot, and Gayle our driver were both extremely safety conscious and we were extremely comfortable with the trip. Gayle was a wealth of knowledge about the history of the island and truly a joy to listen to. If you want to really enjoy a safe, comfortable, informative trip to Hana and back this is the provider you want to hire.

Small Group Road to Hāna Tour 6 to 8 passengers
Jaime was great! She is such a character. Had funny stories and was an EXCELLENT driver. Driving is THE way to do the Road to Hana - the natives prefer it and you will be so glad you did this. It rained sporadically and we were extremely glad Jaime knew the road and crossings so well that we never worried about safety or our ability to cross bridges. Thank you!!

Famous Road to Hana Waterfalls & Lunch by Mercedes Van
Definitely worth the money. The road to Hana is long and windy. We saw a couple of cars that drove over the cliff...have someone that is local drive you to see everything. The guided tour started before most other tours so we were ahead of the crowds. The van was clean and we were able to take pictures from inside and afar. My only complaint is I wish we could've spent more time at the Black Sands Beach to explore and eat lunch. Otherwise, the tour was great.

Tour 21A - Road to Hana Rainforest and Waterfall Fun Tour
I loved the black sand beach and surrounding lava cliffs areas. The guide/driver was concerned about our safety and our comfort as we traveled around the numerous curves. Also both driver and owner were very helpful when one of our party lost her hearing aids. Great service with our pickup special accommodations! Super rating!

Hāna and Beyond - Full Circle Rainforest Tour.
The day was long but it didn’t feel like it because of our guide, Lei. We were in excellent hands! From being funny, witty and genuine to a safe and confident driver, Lei was just as much a highlight as the Road to Hana! We had a beautiful day and got to explore Maui in a way I knew we couldn’t do on our own especially when staying in Lahaina.

Road to Hana Day Trip
I loved this tour, very prompt a lot of insightful information about the island and the culture. We saw so many beautiful beaches and waterfalls and luckily the weather was absolutely perfect. Lepa was our tour guide and she was funny and kept us busy all day. She is from the island and grew up around the places we visited, she knew everyone and it felt honored to be on this tour with her. Thank you Lepa for a great day and I hope to do this tour again whenever I come back to visit.

Maui Tour : Road to Hana Day Trip from Kahului
Larry was a great guide. He was funny and very informative throughout the entire trip. The scenery was gorgeous! I would recommend taking this trip, however, if you are prone to car sickness, this might not be the best trip for you.

Walk Through the Hana Lava Tube

Lava tubes—natural tunnels formed by cooling volcanic lava flows—are only found in a few places in the world, including Hawaii. Explore the Hana Lava Tube (officially called the Ka’eleku Caverns), with flashlights to see about a third of a mile of unique geological formations, including “lavacicles” and a famous area that looks like molten chocolate.
