The Basics

Many travelers visit Antelope Canyon on photography tours to capture the colors and shapes of the canyon's sinuous walls or to spot local wildlife, such as the pronghorn antelope. Often, Antelope Canyon tours also visit Lake Powell or nearby Horseshoe Bend, a scenic viewpoint overlooking a curve in the Colorado River. Slot canyon tours from Flagstaff and Sedona typically include round-trip transportation. Other more comprehensive multi-day tours of the southwest depart from Las Vegas or the Grand Canyon National Park.

Awesome experience
Amazing experience. I loved Canyon X and the photos really don't do it justice. The guide Carlos was friendly and drove safely the whole time. The tour guide in the canyon was funny and very informative. All in all an awesome experience, topping even the Grand Canyon for me.

Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend Small Group Tour from Las Vegas
Long day but worth it. Driver/guide Luis very nice. He drove fast but slowed down when asked. NIce van- clean and the water and snacks were appreciated. Loved Antelope canyon. The Navajo's were kind. Guide should have reminded us to bring tip money. We had to leave bags in van.

Antelope Canyon via Canyon X and Horseshoe Bend Scenic Tour from Sedona
A long day, but well worth it. The view of Horseshoe Bend is extraordinary and exploring Antelope Canyon X is something we won't forget. Every bit as pretty as the images online! Our guide (Steve) from Great West Tours was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Gave us a lot of background information, but wasn't a "canned" script. Highly recommend this if you have an entire day to spend (6AM-6PM).

Lower Antelope Canyon/Horseshoe Bend Half Day Tour from Page, AZ
Lower Antelope Canyon is extremely pretty. I know one cannot predict the weather - but visiting on a sunny day makes the canyon incredible. We were very fortunate there wasn't a cloud in the sky when we visited. Additionally Dominic was very nice. He picked us up at Walmart, answered all of our questions. Once the Canyon was finished he whisked us over to Horseshoe bend. Very personable!

Upper Antelope Canyon Tour with Shuttle Ride and Tour Guide
We visited both the upper & lower antelope canyons on a girl's getaway zen trip. Words cannot describe the beauty & the connection to nature you will experience on this trip. Also, do not miss out on Lower Antelope Canyon; it is just as stunning (but different) as the upper canyon. We added on the lower canyon tour at the last minute and cannot believe we almost missed out on this experience.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • This Navajo nation landmark can only be seen with an authorized tour guide.

  • Bring your camera and a tripod for long exposure shots—photography enthusiasts travel from all over to snap photos of Antelope Canyon.

  • The more popular of the two, Upper Canyon is easily walkable thanks to a level sandy surface but not easily accessible for wheelchair users.

  • Lower Canyon involves a longer walk that requires climbing metal staircases and is therefore totally inaccessible to wheelchair users.

How to Get There

Antelope Canyon is set 7.6 miles (12.2 kilometers) from the city of Page, near the Arizona-Utah border. By road, Flagstaff and Sedona are two hours and three hours away, respectively. Although you must have a guide upon arrival, it's also easy to drive right to Lower Antelope Canyon from Flagstaff, Sedona, and even Phoenix by heading north along Arizona State Route 98.

When to Get There

Although the canyon is open year-round, many travelers consider March through October to be the best time to visit, mainly because of the favorable lighting conditions at that time of year. This lighting makes for a stellar display in the dark canyons, with the sun illuminating the cracks and crevices of the colorful canyon's red rock walls. Expect temperatures near 100°F (38°C) in summer.
